"We are plain quiet folk and have no use for adventures. Nasty disturbing uncomfortable things! Make you late for dinner!”

Bilbo Baggins (and Carrie and Jonathan)

What is Reluctant Adventure?

What do you want?

That's your adventure. Think big..or small. Adventures can be ANYTHING and EVERYTHING! Have you always wanted to travel? Do you dream of having a fit bod? Wish you had the gall to hit on that sexy, tattooed dreamboat? Commit to a relationship? End a relationship? Is it time to change jobs? Fly? Drive? Go to school? Pull a  Thoreau? Go to Target without a bra? THAT is your adventure! If you want it, if it helps you grow, if its different from your norm- its an adventure. But...

Don't be a "but."

Everybody has a but. Some are big, some are small. Some people even have many buts. While buts can serve the helpful purpose of  keeping us in check, they can also be stifling.  If we let our buts take over, they might be all we see when we look behind us. There's more to life than buts.

Change is scary.

We have a love-hate relationship with travel blogs. While it's fun and inspiring to read about people who do/see/make/eat adventurous things, the projection of perfection and ease is both monotonous and unhelpful. Surely Jonathan and I are not the only people who, in spite of our desire to live life fully, get scared. What if it doesn't work? What if we go broke? What if we get hurt? What if the zombie apocalypse begins while I'm on the toilet? (come on, like you don't think about that). The point is, despite media-driven perceptions, adventures are not just for beautiful, rich people who magically know how to navigate life. Adventures can be messy and hard and complicated...but still wonderful. We think it's important to appreciate and discuss ALL of it.
